Gate Valves from 150 Class to 1500 class
Empex Stainless Gate Valves are primarily designed to start or stop the flow of fluid in a system. They are ideal for applications where a straight-line flow and minimal flow restriction are required. In operation, these valves are generally used in either the fully open or fully closed position to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
When fully open, the disc of the gate valve is completely lifted out of the flow path and drawn up into the valve bonnet. This design provides an unobstructed opening, allowing fluid to pass through at nearly the same inside diameter as the connected pipeline. As a result, pressure drop is minimized, ensuring smooth and efficient flow within the piping system.
Why Use a Gate Valve Over a Needle Valve?
The primary reason to choose a Gate Valve over a Needle Valve is flow capacity. Gate valves provide the highest possible flow rate among isolation valves because, when fully open, they offer minimal restriction to fluid movement. This makes them especially suitable for applications such as steam lines and high-flow systems, where maximum throughput and low pressure drop are essential.
However, one limitation is that gate valves are not designed for quick opening or closing and are not ideal for precise flow control. They are best suited for full open or full close isolation service rather than throttling applications.
